Gleaned from the website www.AlpersAwareness.org; Alpers Syndrome, also known as Alpers-Huttenlocher Syndrome, is genetically inherited and affects the production of energy on a cellular level. Sadly, there is currently no treatment or cure. It is one of many mitochondrial illnesses and can be diagnosed with a DNA test of the POLG1 gene. Parents of children with Alpers do not develop Alpers because they carry a dominant, healthy POLG1 gene. However, they also possess a mutation of the gene which can be unknowingly passed on to their child. Alpers occurs only in children who receive the recessive gene from both parents. For more information about the syndrome and/or to contribute to this worthwhile cause, visit their website click here. I met Marc Reasoner while shopping at a local super market; he was wearing a very cool looking vintage style cycling jersey with embroidered names unknown to me. He is the grandfather of Veronica Reasoner who was lost to Alpers Syndrome in 2011. The Reasoner family are raising awareness and money about/for the illness and supporting the charity by offering the sale of attractive high quality old school vintage 100% wool cycling jerseys; see the picture gallery. Contact Marc Reasoner for information about the attractive & comfortable cycling jerseys at click here. If you have any problem contacting the charity or Marc, just contact me & I will assist.
