FRIENDS FOR BIKECOLOGY 1971 Santa Barbara, CA |
This is a 12-page booklet published in 1971 by Friends For Bikecology, an advocacy group located in Santa Barbara, CA. The symbol (logo) for the organization is designed to symbolize the meaning of BIKECOLOGY; ECOLOGY THROUGH BICYCLING. See the logo on pages 11 & 12. Paraphrasing from page-3: Saturday, May 8, 1971 - Bikecology Day This day is the beginning! On May 8, 1971, our goal is to focus the nation`s attention on the importance of bicycling as a practical mode of transportation, to promote a greater awareness of bicycling as an aid in alleviating environmental problems and to develop a program of action that counters these problems. The movement would benefit all major cities in the nation. The dimensions are 8 1/2 x 11 inches. This image is of the front cover, see the picture gallery. [Item# CA_Bikecology] |

Gravity Cycles-A bike sharing solution! (see the picture gallery) |
This is not really an advocacy organization but their business does assist & encourage people to use bicycles instead of automobiles for short distances; they make it very convenient in the locations where they provide service. The concept is to provide easy to use bicycles in a rack at convenient locations. You use your credit card or cell phone to `rent` a bike and drop it off at any of their rack locations. I have not personally experienced their service; I hope it is good! Visit their website for details; www.gravity-cycles.com. PS: This website does not have any other category where this business fits. [Item# CO_Gravity Cycles] |

PeopleForBikes.org 2011 |
I attended the Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival on June 11, 2011. One of the exhibitors was a representative of People For Bikes, an advocacy group which is attempting to gather a million names (signatures) so they can let policymakers, the media and the public know that bicycling is important and should be supported. The representative handed out several SWAG items with the organizations logo including 6 different designed pins, a bumper sticker and a small brochure (4 3/4 x 5 inches) explaining the organizations intent. PeopleForBikes.org is supported by Humana & SRAM. Your name can be included simply by going online to their web site. This image is of one side of the small brochure See the picture gallery. Share The Road-Signs in your Community (how to do it) |
This is a 3-page document regarding SHARE THE ROAD signage with splendid instructions of how to get these signs posted in your neighborhood and/or area. I obtained copies of this document after having read about it in the April 29, 2010 issue #440 of the weekly e-mail Newsletter from Road Bike Rider (a FREE well written and very informative, worthwhile publication). Go to www.roadbikerider.com. The newsletter mentioned another web site, http://www.gringear.com (also interesting for bicyclists) where I found the link and downloaded this letter. Both of the aforementioned web sites are providing a FREE good service to bicyclists. [Item# Share The Road.a] |

Team In Training (TnT) is a fundraising program of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)3 organization and the world`s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. Team In Training (TnT) has trained over a half a million runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers and raised over $1.3 billion to fund lifesaving research. Once you sign up, you`ll be training with our huge network of certified coaches who will have weekly group runs with you and your team. You`ll even have mentors for fundraising support as well as your own website for online fundraising. I was introduced to TnT & L&LS by Shawn Devlin who rides & runs in several events and is passionate about raising money for this worthwhile charity. Check out Shawn`s personal TnT web page. Shawn & his wife Cathy are regular citizens like you & I; however they have chosen to exert a considerable effort toward fund raising for a cure and awareness of Leukemia & Lymphoma cancers. I salute their efforts and results! See the picture gallery. [Item# TnT for L&L Soci] |
