Newspaper Article 1960 Nov-French Sports Face Dry Future (Government studies a ban on Liquor Sponsorships)
Wine and liquor companies in France have traditionally supplied the majority of money for sports sponsorship. But now, the French government wants to reduce drinking in France so a bill is being studied which will prohibit liquor companies from advertising within sports. This was suspected to have a significant affect on the sport of cycling. Now with hindsight, we know that it did not deter bicycle racing. The dimensions are 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches. 2009 May-BICYCLE MOBILE HAM RADIO (how to make it) from QST Magazine (see picture gallery)
A 2-page article published in the May 2009 issue (volume 93 number 5) of QST Magazine which is devoted entirely to amateur radio. The author, Dr. David Pennes of MI, is an avid bicyclist and ham radio enthusiasts. He developed a method of combining his two interests by mounting a Ham Radio onto his Miyata Cross Bike. His top three priorities for the project were; (1) inexpensive, (2) simple, and (3) safe. His method is clearly explained in detail and well illustrated with photos. This article will be of high interest to other Ham operators who also enjoy bicycling and his method of attaching the gear to the bike is valuable for other applications. I suggest that mounting the 2-meter antenna to a front carrier (rack) instead of the rear would be advantageous for bicyclists who are not agile enough to lift their leg over the top-tube and do still mount the bike by swinging their leg over the seat & rear wheel. Dr. Pennes` contact information is given at the end of the article. See the picture gallery.
