THIS VETERAN BUSINESS, 2nd Edition by Derek Roberts, copyright 1969 |
A small 16 page soft cover booklet (including the covers) authored by Mr. Derek Roberts, the Honorary Editor of the Southern Veteran-Cycle Club and a very knowledgeable bicycle historian. These pages describe the evolution of the bicycle and bicycling mainly from a British viewpoint, although there is the inclusion of German and French contributions. Well written, interesting and easy to read; it provides a snippet of the evolution and history of bicycles. The dimensions are 6 11/16 x 8 inches, the condition is very good. The Southern-Veteran-Cycle Club (aka SVCC) is an organization founded in 1955 by a few dozen bicycle collectors and historians. See more information about the SVCC organization click here. Southern Veteran-Cycle Club of England |
The Southern Veteran-Cycle Club was founded in 1955 by a hand full of British bicycling enthusiasts who were also interested in the history of the bicycle. I was a member for several years. The organization publishes two different periodicals; (1) News & Views (published about every 6-weeks) and (2) The Boneshaker (published quarterly). The periodicals can be seen within this collection in the categories of Magazines&Periodicals-Contemporary, SVCC News and Views and Magazines&Periodicals- Contemporary, SVCC The Boneshaker. The organization was renamed in about 2001 to VCC. . .Veteran-Cycle Club, dropping the word Southern (thanks to friend Lorne Shields for this updated information). Additional photos and text pending.
