WOOD RIM 28-inch for Clincher Tire and Tube |
This is a 28 inch 36-hole wood rim for clincher tire & tube (wire-on type). The O.D. is 25.5 inches, the width is 1.875 inches. I think that the current 700x35c and 700x38c tires & tubes will fit this rim and are still available at about $30.00/set (one tire & one tube). The color of the rim is: dark blue center, black outer with four gold stripes. There are several scratches to the finish and it appears that there are some tiny ivory color dots on some portions of the finish which could have been caused by the over-spray of painting nearby. There is a metal sleeve at the valve hole which is riveted into the wood; the stamping on the metal is TUCKER RIM, SIDNEY OHIO. There is also a stamp on the rim which appears to be the makers logo; it is the likeness of a rim with the words TUCKER RIM, SIDNEY OHIO. It appears that this rim might have been laced into a wheel as there are some very slight scratches near three of the spoke holes. It is incredibly straight for an old rim. [Item# Rim-020.T] |

c.1943 Persons Saddle Undercarriage (Available during WWII) |
AVAILABLE FOR SALE, I HAVE DUPLICATES! I have a wood crate of 16 of these Persons Saddle Undercarriages. During the WWII some bicycle parts were very difficult (or impossible) to obtain. My parents told me stories about receiving bicycles from distributors and/or factories without chains, pedals, seats, tires, etc. There would be a note in the box with the bike explaining the shortage due to the war effort. Because of the shortage of bikes, retailers never made any complaints about the missing components (they were thrilled to obtain any bikes). This is the genuine Persons seat undercarriage for the large pan seats. To completely restore an `original` seat you simply add the pan (plate) and clamp assembly together with the foam pad and fabric upholstery. The overall length of the undercarriage is 10 inches. The distance between the two springs is 6 1/8 inches (measured center to center). The distance, outside of one spring to outside of the other spring, is 7 3/4 inches. [Item# Seat-011.P] |
