c.1930`s 3 on a Bike, The WPA Federal Theatre Project (004)
The Federal Theatre Project was the largest and most ambitious effort mounted by the Federal Government to organize and produce theatre events. It was an effort of the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to provide work for unemployed professionals in the theater during the Great Depression which followed the stock market crash of October 1929. The Federal Theatre Project was one of four (subsequently five) arts-related projects called Federal Project Number One, established under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during Roosevelt`s first term. The WPA was created through Executive Order No. 7034 issued on May 6, 1935. The FTP was administered from Washington, D. C., but its many companies stretched the full breadth of the Nation. It functioned from 1935 to 1939 when its funding was terminated. In that brief period, it was responsible for some of the most innovative staging of its time. Dimensions are 10 x 8 inches. c.1903 THE MOLE BROTHERS-JUVENILE CYCLISTS (photo on a postcard)

This is a photograph printed on a postcard. It appears to be a piece of marketing material for the two young Mole brothers; Joe & Phil. It was Phil Mole Sr who in later years acquired the John T. Bill Co. This photo was included in a package of treasures that Pete Mole sent me. A little history: The John T. Bill Co of Los Angeles, founded in 1895, was acquired by Phil Mole Sr in 1950 and operated by him and his three children (Pete, Phil Jr. and Katie) plus several other employees including Bill Kindig (warehouse manager) until 1987. Pete and Howie are long time business associates and friends. Our fathers, Phil Mole Sr. and Leo Cohen Sr., did a considerable amount of business together starting in 1947.  John T (as the company was affectionately referred to by Dealers & suppliers) was well respected by members of the Bicycle Industry. Over the years John T distributed bicycles by Pierce, Armstrong, Raleigh, Columbia, Rollfast, Olmo, Webco, Hutch and a wide selection of domestic and imported parts and accessories. As I write this text in February of 2009, Pete is still active in the Bicycle Industry; he is the General Manager of Dahon USA, the amazing company famous for developing folding bicycles. See more details about Pete Mole and the John T. Bill Co. in ‘Stories from Howie’ a separate section of this website. The dimensions of the photo are 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. This postcard is kept with Photographs-Trick riding. Shown here is a cropped portion of the photo so you can see the size and age of the Mole boys; see the picture gallery for a picture of the actual size postcard.
