New Departure used Coaster Brake Model-A 40-hole, c.1911 |
This New Departure Model-A coaster brake has a 40-hole hub shell. It appears to be complete minus the brake arm strap. I cleaned it up a little and used a wire brush trying to determine the original finish. It was not black and I don`t think it was chrome. I am told it is nickel plated finish. The sprocket is is 20T x 1/2 inch; one tooth is broken. The text on the brake are is NEW DEPARTURE COASTER BRAKE PAT`D. Being a 40-hole coaster brake it was most likely used on a British bicycle with wood or steel-clad wood rims. See the picture gallery. [Item# BikePartAtq N200g] |

New Departure Fixed NOS Model-R Rear Hub 36-hole |
THIS ITEM IS NO LONGER IN MY COLLECTION. A brand new (NOS) New Departure 36-hole Model-R rear hub with the original box for a vintage bicycle from the late 1890s or very early 1900s (Columbia, Crescent, Monarch, Merkel, Miami, Mead, Ranger, Pierce, Racycle, Rollfast, Harris, Shelby, Schwinn, Dayton, Elgin, Iver Johnson, Colson, etc.). It is chrome plated with a patina (see the pictures). It spins beautifully. It has never been laced up into a wheel. The barrel is engraved on two lines with:NEW DEPARTURE MODEL R MADE IN USA. This hub is NOT a coaster brake; it is for a fixed gear (cog/sprocket). The original box is completely broken apart. See the picture gallery. [Item# BikePartAtq N6002g] |
