more details Advertising Mat from Schwinn, c.1958 An ad mat containing 6 different Schwinn logos, 1 Schwinn Authorized Dealer logo, and several different `fillers` including; `Easy Payments`, `Easy Terms`, `Buy the easy way. . .use layaway`, `Schwinn`s the bike most kids want to own`, and more. The dimensions are 7 1/2 x 6 inches. These mats were given to newspapers and/or magazine publications when my father placed his advertising. It is difficult to see the details of the various logos in this photo because there is very little contrast, but the images are very sharp. It contains illustrations and test for seven (7) different items, plus extra text about `Early Bird Specials`. (1) Clearance Sale True Bike Bargains, (2) Bornemann Seat Covers, (3) Stewart Warner Cadet Speedometers, (4) Gulco Reflectors, (5) Master Bike Locks, (6) Bike Baskets - supplied by Wald & Androck, (7) Ashtabula Forged Replacement Forks. Member-2 1/8 x 2 1/8 inches, (2) Schwinn 26 inch balloon tire bike-2 1/2 x 1 7/8 inches, (3) Schwinn 26 inch balloon tank model with front-fender light & rear carrier-2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches, on the right row starting at the top, (4) Schwinn Bikes as Featured on Captain Kangaroo-CBS TV Network-2 7/8 x 2 5/8 inches, (5) Schwinn tank model with spring fork, front fender light, rear carrier, hand brakes-2 1./4 x 1 5/8 inches. [Item# Ad mats-cuts-003]     more details A Group of 9 Ad Cuts (Slugs) These are steel images bonded onto wood or steel backings that were used by newspapers or magazine publications when the bicycle dealer placed advertising in print. Several of the cuts (sometimes referred to as slugs) in my collection came from Ted Ernst, a long time bike racer from Chicago and dealer with a store in Manhattan Beach, Calif. The descriptions of the nine (9) cuts are, starting with the 5 in the left double row at the top: (1) a side view of a cut that is bonded to a piece of wood, (2) a boys 26 inch wheel bike from the 1940`s or 1950`s, the lower top tube is curved upward, (3) a boys 26 inch wheel lightweight bike with hand brakes, (4) a small size Schwinn authorized Dealer logo, (5) a wheel with wings, the text is; `WEKEEPMOVING FEGAN`S CIGARS, GRAND FORKS, N.D.`, starting on the center row at the top, (6) a 26 inch wheel Schwinn tank model with front and rear carriers, hand brakes and a headlight, (7) a 26 inch wheel lightweight with headlight and saddle bag; it appears to be a Schwinn, (8) a larger size Schwinn Authorized Dealer logo, and lastly the large cut on the right is (9) a Schwinn 26 inch wheel balloon tire bike with tank, light on front fender, two hand brakes and rear luggage carrier, together with a Schwinn Authorized Dealer logo, and the text, `PARTS, REPAIRS, SERVICE`, and space for the inclusion of additional text. [Item# Ad mats-cuts-004]     more details A Group of 6 Advertising Cuts The left column starting at the top; (1) A ladies safety with spoon front brake, full cover chainguard, skirt protector and curved seatpost, (2) Schwinn cantilever frame 26 inch balloon tire bike with truss rods, front fender light and rear carrier, (3) Schwinn girls 26 inch balloon tire bike with spring fork, front fender light and rear carrier. The right column starting at the top; (4) Schwinn non-cantilever frame 26 inch balloon tire bike with truss rods, front fender light and rear carrier, (5) Schwinn ladies 26 inch lightweight bike with hand brakes (most likely a 3-speed hub), appears to be a `WORLD` model, (6) Schwinn boys 26 inch balloon tire bike with spring fork, front fender light and rear carrier (appears to be the match to above #3). [Item# Ad mats-cuts-005]     more details A Group of 6 Advertising Cuts Starting with the left column at the top; (1) a racer on a track bike, (2) ladies safety with curved top tube, full cover chainguard, skirt protector, spoon front brake, (3) boys 26 inch lightweight bike with rat-trap pedals, tool bag on seat, full cover chainguard and it appears to have rod brakes (indicating that is is probably British), starting on the right column at the top; (4) Schwinn 26 inch balloon tire bike with tank, spring fork, hand brakes, front fender light and rear carrier, the text is Schwinn Built Bicycles and the Schwinn-Approved Chicago logo, including the words `insert your copy, name address and phone number here`, the dimensions are 2 1/16 x 1 7/16 inches, (5) British 26 or 28 inch wheel lightweight tricycle for adults with rod brakes, hockey stick chainguard and tool bag on seat, (6) two people riding racing bikes, the dimensions are 1 1/4 x 1 3/8 inches. [Item# Ad mats-cuts-006]     more details EVERYTHING BICYCLES Logo-Gent Riding a Star Bicycle There are four of these in the collection. We used them for printing various items including checks. The dimensions of the logo image are 15 x 18mm. [Item# AdMatCut-EB003]     more details Howie`s official `signature` stamp used in Japan starting in 1964. The Japanese custom was for official documents (purchase orders, etc.) to be signed using the traditional Japanese style stamp. Mr. Yukio Kawamura (president of Kawamura Cycle Co., Ltd.) kindly had this stamp produced for Howie. The stamp itself is located at the end of a 2 3/8 inch long cylinder, which is kept in an attractive lined case (the outside of the case appears to be covered with snake skin). There is a small amount of red color ink supplied in a small plastic container that is built into the case. The dimensions of the case are 3 1/2 x 1 inches (when closed) and it has a snap-clasp to keep it securely shut so the ink does not stain your clothing (the case is kept in your pocket at all times). [Item# Rubber Stamp-002]     more details Rubber Stamp of `RARE BEAR` It`s a big bear with a big grin riding a bike; the nameplate on the bike is `FUN`. The text on the package is, `Personalize your mail. Stamp your envelopes and stationery to amuse your mailman and match your mood. Rubber Stamps are silly, entertaining, happy and loving. The dimensions are 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches. [Item# Rubber Stamp-003]     more details Gent Standing by his High Wheel A unique rubber stamp made from authentic 19th and early 20th century Printers` Ornaments or Copperplate Electrotypes and mounted on an original hand-crafted Stoneware base. The dimensions are 1 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches. [Item# Rubber Stamp-004]     more details Address Stamp for Murray Ohio Mfg. Co. Used by a New Jersey company, one of Murray`s major suppliers of imported component parts. This stamp was used to address the many envelopes and labels for documents, correspondence and samples from the supplier to Murray. The dimensions are 2 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches. A little history; Murray was America`s largest producer of bicycles in the 1960`s. They produced bicycles and juvenile wheel goods (trikes, autos, tractors, etc.) under the Murray brand and also under private brands for customers including West Coast Cycle Supply Co., Sears, Western Auto, Whites Auto, and many, many more. Howie had a close relationship with Murray starting from the early 1960`s when Gene Smith (`Smitty`), now of Kool Stop fame, would make sales calls to WCCSC for Murray`s Parts and Accessories program, for which WCCSC was a distributor. WCCSC also purchased the private brand of `American Flyer` bikes and juvenile wheel goods from Murray (Tom Philbin was in charge of the American Flyer brand program). [Item# Rubber Stamp-005]     more details Everything Bicycles Accounting Department `APPROVED FOR PAYMENT` This is a self-inking stamp used by Everything Bicycles to authorize payment of invoices after the invoice had been audited for correctness. The dimensions are 1 3/4 x 3/4 inches. [Item# Rubber Stamp-006]     more details Small Bicycle Rubber Stamp A small plastic case enclosed this rubber stamp that is made in Germany. It was a gift from Hartwig Hofherr, a long time friend and business associate in Frankfurt, Germany. The diameter of the case is 29mm, the length of the bike is 19mm. The ink pad has red color ink; a sample of the stamp is shown on the left of the plastic case. [Item# Rubber Stamp-007]
