A little history; Yasushi Sugino, the founder of the company, was a very kind and passionate man. In addition to managing a large factory producing a multitude of styles of cranks and chainwheels, he was a very talanted photographer, specializing in black and white photography. He has been published several times and his art books are included in Howie's library. He wanted to photograph Death Valley at dawn so Dave Hammond, a WCCSC employee, guided Yasushi to Death Valley at least two times that I recall. Dave was also a kind and peaceful man so there was a good connection between them. Yasushi presented Howie with a huge handmade chainring (372 teeth) when WCCSC opened a new large and modern wearhouse. This valuable momento now decorates the exterior wall of Howie's garage, facing the back yard; a photo is also in the category of 'Miscellaneous'. Kozo Sugino, Yasushi's son, now manages the company. The market conditions in Japan have changed dramatically between 1963 and 2007; I have watched the evolution closely.
