This sketch was commissioned by Sir John Blundell Maple, who requested that Patterson draw one of the interior of a furnished room at the well-known Emporium in England. This particular framed piece is printed or etched onto an aluminum plate and simply framed in white. The dimensions are 5 3/4 x 8 inches. A little history; Frank Patterson is one of the best known sketch artist of all time. His sketches adorned the pages of England`s `Cycling` magazine, a weekly published by Temple Press, from the late 1800`s well into the 1900`s. I have four (4) different books in my `bicycle book library` that are full of hundreds of sketches by Patterson (it is reported that Patterson did over 5,000 bicycle and bicycling sketches). He was a large man who loved cycling and he had an extraordinary talent for drawing each part of the bicycle in perfect proportion. When he was too old to ride a bicycle he changed to a lightweight dérailleur geared adult tricycle and he always had his sketch pad tucked away in the saddle bag.
