Richard Avedon (1923~2004), the famous photographer, photographed Marilyn Monroe posing as four (4) of the 19th century `vamps`. This original painting by Cal Baily is of the photograph of Marilyn Monroe posing as Lillian Russell. Acquired by Howie in the 1960`s during the Bicycle Trade Show held in downtown Los Angeles at the Baltimore Hotel. The dimensions of the frame are 45 x 56 inches, the painting is approximately 36 x 48 inches. The photograph has been widely exposed in various publications including the front cover of LIFE Magazine. I have three (3) T-Shirts with a reproduction heat transfer of this art. Mesinger Mfg Co (bicycle seats) used this image on a commemorative ashtray for their 85th Anniversary (see the picture gallery).

Notice that the pose of Marilyn Monroe in this photo is different from her pose that was published in the LIFE Magazine. Obviously Richard Avedon took more than one pose and this publication obtained a copy of this particular pose.
