| M.W. Bartlett. Spokes, handlebars, pedals, --- . An interesting story: In 1955 Jack De Vrise was working for --- ----, owner of ----- Bike Shop in Bellingham, WA. They owned a Pope-Columbia Ordinary that was badly damaged in an auto accident (the high-wheeler was tied onto the running board of the van when the van turned over). Jack ordered 72 special spokes & nipples from Torrington (105-ga, 24 inches long, and with 1 1/2 inches of threads). Torrington produced the spokes (100 of them), packed them in a wooden case and shipped them to WA. Jack had a new rim produced in a local machine shop, rebuilt the wheel, installed 1 1/4 inch cab tiring and he still has the high-wheel bike today in his collection (in the year 2010). The bike is original except for the repair and the head badge is missing.| Picture Gallery for this Item (click images to enlarge) |
