Taihei was a factory that produced a full range of bicycle seats and also bags and other consumer products produced from vinyls. Founded by Katsuhiko `KATCHAN` Kitaguchi, the company flourished because of Katchan`s terrific personality, his never tiring hard work, and the ability of his employees to produce high quality products in a timely manner. Howie and the Kitaguchi family formed a close friendship (same as family) in the 1960`s; we are still close. Katchan`s son, Naoya, lived with Kay & Howie for over a year while he was studying the American bicycle market. Naoya is now president of the company and is capably managing the company. Taihei is mentioned on page-174 of teh 1952 edition of the Japan Bicycle Guide. Taihei was famous in the BMX segment for the Elina Seats. They also produced a full line of bike seats of all segments of the bicycle industry. This picture taken at the 1972 WCC Cycle Rama Show during the introductions of suppliers to Dealers is of Howie Cohen and Katsuhiko `Katchan` Kitaguchi. More pictures and text pending.
