| Large Redwood Sign 'NISHIKI' Bicycles |
|
| | This appears to be produced using two large pieces of Redwood laminated together, then sand blasted and painted with the blue, red and yellow colors. The English translation of the word Nishiki is 'brocade fabric using some gold threads'; the resulting fabric that is used to produce the very most expensive Japanese Kimonos used for ceremonies such as weddings. The reason we chose the name Nishiki is because we wanted a Japanese brand name to fit specific qualifications; (1) easy for Americans to pronounce, (2) accepable translation into English, and (3) difficult for youngsters to mispronounce into a negative English word. The Nishiki bicycles (and their predecessors 'American Eagle') were initially produced by Kawamura Cycle Co in Kobe, Japan. We adopted the unique red-yellow-blue square logo to accompany the Nishiki name because it was the logo of Kawamura-Built-Bicycles. The meaning of the 3-color square is: red is 'passion for our customers', yellow is 'well designed products', and blue is 'sincerity in doing business'. The dimensions of this sign are 20 x 26 inches; it is 1 3/4 inches thick. Nishiki and American Eagle bicycles were the first high quality bikes produced in Japan and widely accepted and sold by Independent Bicycle Dealers due to their quality and value. You will often see the logo 'KB Bicycles' associated with American Eagle and Nishiki brands; the meaning of KB is 'Kawamura Built'. In later years Giant-Taiwan also produced Nishiki brand bikes.
