Maruka was a large trading company exporting heavy and light machinery from Japan to many foreign countries. They also had obtained a substantial quantity of *`quota`* for exporting bicycles. *(Japan had a self imposed quota system which restricted the quantity of bicycles exported to America; contact Howie for more detailed information about this).* Maruka partnered with *Kawamura Cycles* and used their quota to export *American Eagle* and then *Nishiki* bicycles to *WCC*. Howie worked closely with several employees at Maruka including; Matsushita-san, Nakamata-san, Katsumata-san, Tanabe-san, Otsuka-san, Maeda-san, and others.
