- Phil`s first bicycle was a Raleigh Triumph.
- Phil`s attraction to bicycles flourished and he started racing as an amateur riding a Freddie Grubb frame which was produced in London. He raced for 12 years as a high level amateur.
- Phil did some announcing at bike races in England. In 1966 he was employed as a journalist for Cycling and Mopeds, a popular British cycling magazine. He also accepted a position of bicycle commentating for the BBC Radio station. In 1978 the Independent Television Station in Britain invited him to do commentating for TV
- Phil`s last competitive bicycle race was in 1975
- Currently (2010) Phil is the bicycle race commentator for four (4) television networks and can be seen and heard while announcing most of the major bike races worldwide. At age 67 he still manages to cycle about 4,000 km per year
- Phil`s knowledge of bike racing and bike racers (current & past) and the exciting manner in which he describes the races make him a very popular commentator/journalist.
