1899 Bike License `Albany Co.` 1899 |
|
| An 1899 bicycle license (the year is determined by the cut-out number nine according to Bill Grigg who is seeking an early Chicago bike license). This license is produced from aluminum and has the number 9 stamped out, with the words `Commission No.` underneath the 9. The license number on the bottom is 5187. The words on top are, `Albany Co. Sidepath` (I assume New York). Holes have been stamped (punched) on both sides; I assume so a bolt & nut can be used to attach the license to one of the tubes of the bike, or the handlebar (an older bolt & nut are included). This license is bent as you can see in the photo; I assume because it was mounted onto a bike. The material is quite soft and easy to form. |
