| SCHWINN brand NOS Handlebar, black color, Pat. 1940 |
|
| AVAILABLE TO SELL, I HAVE A DUPLICATE! This picture shows two NOS (brand new, unused but with some scratches due to shelf life) black color handlebars; the upper is the Schwinn brand. Although the paper tube (wrapper) that the handlebar is wrapped in is badly torn, you can still read the text which is SCHWINN HANDLEBAR PAT. OCT. 8, 1940, PAT. NO, 2216833. The handlebar does not appear to have any markings of brand but the paper tube wrapper is clearly marked Schwinn. The paint is gloss black. The knurls are not as deep on the Schwinn as the knurls on the generic handlebar (lower). Although both handlebars (Schwinn & generic) appear to be made in America, they appear to be made from different tooling and therefore probably are from different makers (maybe Torrington & Wald). Both handlebars appear to have the same shape as the Wald #851 English Style. This shape of handlebar was used on several models of Schwinn bikes produced in the 1940s; New World, Superior & Paramount.
