Leo was well known, liked and respected in the bicycle industry. He experienced all facets of the industry during the brief 24 years he was involved; he started in 1939 when he purchased a used bicycle with a borrowed $5.00. He rebuilt and repainted the bicycle and sold it from his home for $10.00. From this very modest beginning, he built the business into a thriving retail bicycle store chain and then into a major bicycle distributorship in Los Angeles. Leo had great vision and high integrity both of which made it possible for him to accomplish the near-impossible. He was a great family man who encouraged his wife and three children to continually reach for higher goals in life and in business. I loved working with him and for him as he taught me so many things about the bicycle business and life; he often times reminded me that one of the most important attributes of a man is his integrity which takes years to develop but can be lost in an instant by an inappropriate deed. His death at the young age of 49 years was a shock to the family and to associates in the bicycle industry. The article shown here appeared in the January 1964 issue of The American Bicyclist and Motorcyclist trade magazine. MGRHS
