I was introduced to this worthwhile organization and endeavor at the Opening Day ceremony and cyclo-cross race at the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, CO on October 17, 2009. Visit the below four (4) websites to obtain additional information: www.coloradomtb.org, www.nationalmtb.org, www.norcalmtb.org and www.socaldirt.org. Mountain bike racing is a valuable sport for high school boys and girls. It helps to: • Promote an atmosphere of respect and camaraderie that encourages participation in the sport mountain biking in a safe and enjoyable manner. • Promote athlete skills development, excellence, teamwork, professionalism and respect for the community and the environment; • Promote the sport of mountain biking and the benefits of mountain biking as a healthy, low impact, outdoor recreational lifestyle; • Provide regional leadership and governance by maintaining the comprehensive policies, rules and guidelines that establish fair rules of play and codes of conduct as set forth by NICA; • Provide comprehensive Coaches Training and Licensing programs to establish and maintain national standards and best practices as set forth by NICA; • Provide comprehensive risk management guidelines for high school mountain bike programs to establish and maintain national standards and best practices as set forth by NICA; • Provide technical assistance and support for development of new teams, camps, races and special events; • Provide successful models of team development, sustainable fiscal growth, and corporate and individual donor development; • Advocate for the environmental conservation of natural areas and parklands, mountain bike trail access, and the development of sustainable trail systems.
