| The company was founded by Wayne Lumpkin in 1991. Wayne, together with his capable wife, two sons and additional staff as needed, grew the business from infancy to a major player in the bicycle industry. Distributors and OEM`s worldwide were anxious to obtain Avid brakes and the various other parts that Wayne designed. The company was acquired by SRAM in 2004 and SRAM currently produces, markets and sells Avid products worldwide. Wayne & his son Andrew are currently involved in a belt drive mechanism for bicycles (instead of a chain drive).
