One of Howie`s closest and oldest friends in the Japan bicycle industry is Katsuhiko `Katchan` Kitaguchi. He was the owner of Taihei Industrial Co, the maker of Taihei bicycle seats & bags. Taihei was famous for innovative designs which included BMX Elina seats with and without lightening bolts, polo seats for high-riser (Sting-ray) bikes, comfort seats for racing & touring bikes and much more. Katchan`s son, Naoya lived with Kay & Howie in Los Angeles for more than one year while he studied the USA bicycle industry. Now Naoya is in his mid fifties; he is managing Taihei Trading Co. and has a lovely family. This family photo, arranged by Naoya, was taken while Kay & Howie were visiting Japan in August of 2001. Right to left:
Standing in the back row; Kyoko Kitaguchi (Naoya`s wife), Naoya Kitaguchi (both of Taihei Trading Co.) , Mo-chan Okamoto (Naoya`s step-brother), Chi-chan Okamoto (Mo-chan`s wife).
Standing in the second row from the back, behind the old timers; Kana & Yuka Kitaguchi (daughters of Naoya & Kyoko), Haruka & Akina Okamoto (daughters of Mo-chan & Chi-chan).
Seated; the old timers; Kay Cohen & Howie Cohen (Everything Bicycles), Keiko & Katchan Kitaguchi (Taihei Trading Co.).
Seated in the front row; Naruo & Rueno Kitaguchi (sons of Naoya & Kyoko).
The Cohen`s and Kitaguchi`s have enjoyed a long standing and close relationship; Kay & I cherish that relationship.
