Hiroko is the only daughter of Yukio & Takako Kawamura (president of Kawamura Cycle Co, initial producer of American Eagle & Nishiki bicycles). I knew her very well as I often stayed in the Kawamura home for several days during my many trips to Japan. A little history; Yukio`s nickname was Hige-san; he had a mustache which is pronounced `Hige` in Japanese. The traditional wedding was very elegant; a wonderful experience. I received a lovely hand written note from Hiroko-chan 12 days after the wedding; she was busy setting up her new small house in Yokohama (far away from Kobe). The Kawamura`s know my entire family because we lived in Kobe for 3 months during the time when there was a bike boom in America and bicycles and bicycle parts were difficult to acquire. I would visit the various factories every day in an effort to obtain the items that WCC needed to meet the requirements of our customers. I met Hiroko & Takako again in 2000 when Kay & I were in Japan for the 11th International Cycling History Conference which was sponsored by Shimano. At that time Atsu Sawada and Takako-san took me to the cemetery where I spend a few minutes at Hige-san`s final resting place. In this photo, (L-R) Hiroko Kawamura-The Bride, her assistant during the ceremony, The Groom, Hige-san, Takako-san and the Master of Ceremonies.
