1967 December, A photo of one of the aisles with merchandise in the 221 S. San Pedro St. Building |
|
| WCCSC moved to 221 South San Pedro St. in the late 1950`s. It was WCCSC`s second building; the company started at 225 East 6th St. in Los Angeles. The San Pedro facility had 10,000 square feet on each of the 3 floors, totaling 30,000-sf. We built wooden shelves, hooks for hanging built-up wheels, poles (pipes with flanges) for hanging rims and WSW tires and palletized bins for black tires. We received Carlisle tires and tubes via rail car which was spotted on the siding at our back door. We received imported products including bicycles, parts, accessories and Trelleborg tires/tubes from Sweden via large semi trailers; the truckers picked up the cargo at the L.A. Harbor. Howie worked in the warehouse and as a part-time salesman from 1957 until the death of his father, Leo J. Cohen, Sr. in 1963; afterwhich Howie worked full time in purchasing and administration. Posting these photos brings back many wonderful memories. See the picture gallery.Picture Gallery for this Item (click images to enlarge) |
