AVAILABLE TO SELL, I HAVE A DUPLICATE & I ALSO HAVE THIS ART FRAMED (see item WH,misc-015.q). This sketch is of a tandem leaning against the sign post; the text on the sign is, Teas & Luncheons, Lock up your Cycles`. The building is obviously a bed & breakfast with a pub next door advertising Old Ales & Stout. The Three Wings (with the letters C.T.C. interspersed) are the logo for the British Cyclists` Touring Club. The art is reproduced onto an aluminum plate of which the dimensions are 145x190mm. A little history; Frank Patterson is one of the best known sketch artist of all time. His sketches adorned the pages of England`s `Cycling` magazine, a weekly, published by Temple Press, from the late 1800`s well into the 1900`s. I have hundreds of issues of `Cycling` magazine in this collection (see Magazines/Periodicals-Antique,Cycling, Britian`s Temple Press). Additionally, I have four (4) different books in my `bicycle book library` that are full of hundreds of sketches by Patterson (it is reported that Patterson did over 5,000 bicycle and bicycling sketches). He was a large man who loved cycling and he had an extraordinary talent for drawing each part of the bicycle in perfect proportion. When he was too old to ride a bicycle he changed to a lightweight dérailleur geared adult tricycle and he always had his sketch pad tucked away in the saddle bag. It was reported that Frank could work around the farm all day, using his large muscular hands for labor, and then spend a few hours sketching fine details in the evening.
